NDVI Values Suggest Immediate Responses to Fire in an Uneven-Aged Mixed Forest Stand

چکیده

Fire modifies vegetation dynamics in terrestrial ecosystems. Abundant literature has studied the post-fire effects with satellite sensors; however, relatively fewer studies have used unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to assess of greenness prior and immediately following prescribed fires. Using multispectral sensors mounted on UAVs, we documented results normalized difference index (NDVI) as a proxy for pre- natural forest stand northern Mexico. spectral reflectance techniques statistical analyses Kruskal–Wallis pairwise Wilcoxon rank-sum tests, statistically significant differences were found NDVI values, measured before after controlled burning (p < 0.05). The showed an increase “greenness” from 0.57 0.65. This was interpreted immediate change activity canopy, which could be attributable stimulus heat stress. Complementary indices also reinforce our findings; recognize that further research is required, instance, address timing image capture. Our findings demonstrate potential some challenges associated use UAVs monitor fires, while suggesting need more detailed physiological phenological studies. High spatial resolution maps represent valuable starting point subsequent temporal monitoring contribute knowledge fire at fine resolutions.

Evaluating of Different Height-Diameter Nonlinear Models for Hornbeam in Uneven-Aged Stands (Case Study: Golestan Rezaeian Forest)

Projection of stand development over time relies on accurate height-diameter functions. In this study, we evaluated the capability of 43 nonlinear models to estimate hornbeam heights in a portion Rezaeian experimental forest in Gorgan, Golestan province. We applied a systematic random sampling method to collect field data within a 150×200 meter network (3.33% intensity). It resulted in 200 circ...

Geographic Variation in Mixed-Conifer Forest Fire Regimes in California

This paper reviews recent research from California on geographic variability in mixed conifer (MC) forest fire regimes. MC forests are typically described as having experienced primarily frequent, low to moderate severity burns prior to fire suppression that created a mosaic of vegetation patches with variable structure. Research throughout California generally supports this view, but recent re...

Understory responses to fire and artificial seeding in an eastern Cascades Abies grandis forest, U.S.A.1

To mitigate erosion after fire, land managers often seed non-native grasses onto burned slopes. To assess how post-fire seeding affects plant recovery, we compared areas that were either unseeded or artificially seeded after high-intensity fire in a dry Abies grandis (Dougl.) Lindl. forest in the northeastern Cascades. Seeding with a mix of non-native grasses and a legume significantly reduced ...

Prescribed fire effects on structure in uneven-aged stands of loblolly and shortleaf pines

Key words Structure was assessed in uneven-aged stands of loblolly (Pinus taeda) and shortleaf pine (P. echinata) that were subjected to prescribed winter burns on cycles of 0, 3, 6, and 9 years. Vegetation assessments were made in late summer of 1990, 10 years after a single hardwood control treatment (basal injection of nonpine woody plants >2.5 cm in ground-line diameter with TordorP 101 R);...
